Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo is one of the most prolific fashion designers of all time. In addition to her Comme des Garcons line, she has collaborated with many sneaker brands over the years. One of the most notable is her ongoing reworking and styling of the Converse Chuck Taylor with her sub-label Comme des Garcons PLAY. Kawakubo introduced her first iteration in 2009, modifying the original by stripping away the contrasting stitching. Six years later, in 2015, she used the All Star Chuck 70s as a template to create a beloved model that has seen new releases every year since. Comme des Garcons PLAY footwear is most recognizable for its heart-and-eye logo, originally conceived by Filip Pagowski. Unlike the 2009 version, the 2015 version and every release since moved away from the minimalist concept that first inspired Kawakubo. The Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star 70s Hi Comme des Garcons PLAY returns to the classic '70s Chuck Taylor style, with a high collar that hugs the ankle, a black upper, white laces, and a white sole and toe cap.
