Foam Runner Sizing — Do They Run Big or Small?
Foam clog runners — the sculpted, holey one-piece foam shoes — are the trickiest thing to size online, because there are no laces to adjust and the foam doesn't stretch. Get the size right the first time with this guide.
The short answer
Foam runners generally run true to size or slightly large, with a wide footbed. Most people are happiest at their normal whole size. If you fall on a half size, size down to the nearest whole size — the foam has some give across the top and a snug fit stops your foot sliding forward.
Why sizing feels weird
- No half sizes, usually. Molded foam comes in whole sizes only, so you're forced to round. Round down unless you have wide feet.
- No laces. You can't tighten them, so the out-of-box fit is the fit. A slightly snug foam shoe loosens as the footbed warms and molds; a loose one never tightens.
- The holes are structural, not just style. They let the foot breathe and the foam flex, which changes how the shoe hugs your foot compared to a solid clog.
By foot type
- Wide feet: stay true to your whole size — the footbed is already generous. Only size up if you're between and your feet are very wide.
- Narrow feet: size down to the nearest whole size, and consider a thin sock for colder days to take up room.
- Between sizes: size down. A snug foam shoe is far more wearable than a sloppy one.
How to check before you order
Measure your bare foot length in centimeters (heel to longest toe), stand on a piece of paper and mark both ends. Match that number to the CM column of our size guide — CM is the most reliable way to pick foam sizing, more so than converting from your usual US or EU number.
FAQ
Do foam runners run big or small?
They run true to size or slightly large, with a wide footbed. Most people take their normal whole size; half sizes should round down.
Should I size up or down in foam runners?
Size down to the nearest whole size if you're between sizes. The foam molds and softens slightly with wear, so a snug fit becomes comfortable — a loose fit never tightens.
Are foam runners good for wide feet?
Yes. The molded footbed is naturally wide and roomy, so wide feet usually fit well at true size.
Can I wear socks with foam runners?
Yes — a thin sock helps in cooler weather and can take up a little extra room if you're between sizes. Many people also wear them barefoot in summer.
